AL CAPONE:
PUBLIC ENEMY NUMBER ONE
PROHIBITION
Prohibition was the time period from 1918 to 1933, during which alcoholic beverages were effectively prohibited from the United States. As it was no longer legal to obtain alcohol, people had to use illicit means to get it. And Al Capone was a key player in this scheme.
A POLITICAL CARTOON ON PROHIBITION

This is a political cartoon on Prohibition, created during the Prohibition era. It appeared in the Cleveland News and depicts the sides of the Prohibition issue.
Since alcohol was illegal in the Prohibition era, organized crime was in its element. People wanted to drink alcohol, and they were willing lower their moral standards to get it. Soon it became almost as easy to get alcohol illegally as it had been when alcohol was legal. One of the gang leaders who participated in this organized crime was Al Capone, the leader of the Chicago underworld. It was due to the restrictions of Prohibition that organized crime such as Capone’s increased in importance.
Since Prohibition caused the spectacular organized crime, we can say that this contributed to making the 1920s roaring.
